Phthalate-Compliant VinylWhat are Phthalates?Phthalates are a family of compounds made from alcohols and phthalic anhydride. They are oily, colorless, odorless liquids that do not evaporate readily. They are found in plastic children's toys and products to make them soft. The concern is kids are putting the toys in their mouths. "In laboratory tests these chemicals have shown very severe side effects both causing cancer and having effects in reproductive organs," Councilman Eric Gioia said. Goldberger Toys and PhthalatesThe Goldberger Company decided that they will create phthalate-free toys wherever a child might ingest or orally come in contact with the toy. Goldberger Co. is one of the first doll companies in the U.S. to use reduced phthalate vinyl. All Goldberger Co. baby dolls ordered in 2007 have been manufactured with phthalate-free vinyl, as defined above. Jeffrey Holtzman, President and CEO of Goldberger Co., says, “I am neither a scientist, nor a governmental policy-maker, but I am a concerned businessman and a parent. Under my leadership, Goldberger Co. will always seek to take a proactive approach to issues of safety and put children's health first.” |
