History

Goldberger Dolls opened its doors in Brooklyn, New York, in 1916.

For nearly a century we have continuously created plaything of quality and delight for girls all over the world. Over the years, the Goldberger name has been Goldberger Dolls, EeGee and EG. The Goldberger Company is nearing its 100th Birthday - that's nearly a century of creating toddler specific toys, dolls, bears and more recently toddler water wonders!

The Goldberger Company and the Teddy Bear

The idea of the teddy bear was born in 1902 when President Theodore Roosevelt refused to shoot a captive bear during a hunting trip. Washington Post cartoonist Clifford Berryman depicted the incident on the front page of the newspaper, and soon toymakers began to manufacture the "teddy" bears associated with the president's name. People in all walks of life love teddy bears, and enthusiasts—known in the teddy bear world as arctophiles—pay top dollar for the collectibles.

Today there are teddy bear magazines, clubs, collector shows and programs, both educational and medical, that feature these little stuffed companions. Teddy bears have had endless books, songs and poem written about them. Widely viewed as symbols of security and comfort, teddy bears are often used by police officers and hospital staff to calm the young and old alike in traumatic situations.

In the early years Teddy bears were scarce in America and Mr G. (as we fondly refer to him) was keenly aware of the impact a loving safe toy such a teddy bear brought to the minds, hearts and development of our youngest citizens so he made it his quest to create and distribute the highest quality bears and dolls of the day possible. A tradition that lives on with the Goldberger Company today in our hearts, our minds, our manufacturing and our business philosophies and practices.

Goldberger Collectibles

Through the years, many of our dolls have gone from beloved companions to valuable collectibles. With this in mind, we’re pleased to welcome back some of the “little girls” we knew in childhood, as they’re reunited with the dolls of their youth!

If you are interested in creating a Goldberger, EG or EeeGee Collectible Club, please contact us and we will help you put the pieces together. It could be fun!

Our focus:

Playthings that engage the mind, body and soul for children aged 0 to 3 years old and their parents.

Our philosophy:

We create dolls and toys that are delightful, safe and fun, and are just as parent friendly as kid friendly – in their maintenance, their quality, and their value.

Playthings for children in their earliest years help to shape how they grow and learn. The care and attention we put into our toys is returned tenfold by the ways they nourish and teach the children who play with them.

Jeffrey Holtzman

In 2006, Jeffrey Holtzman became the Chief Executive Officer of Goldberger. Goldberger today continues into the third generation: it is a family company in every possible way, family-owned, certainly, but also family-centered.

Jeff and his wife, Shelley, are parents; the decisions they are making for Goldberger are guided by their abiding commitment to the company, their solid sense of responsibility and insight as parents, and by the vitality of their own youth and energy.

Bette Holtzman

Bette is Jeff's sister and a respected child care professional. As a psychiatric social worker, board of education member, and family therapist, she has worked for decades as an advocate for healthy families, creating the environments and tools children need to grow and flourish. As a parent, she has built those environments on her own turf. As Goldberger’s VP of Parent and Family Advocacy, she will steer and moderate the conversations our website instigates about childhood development and the role of playthings in healthy growth.
