Summer Water Safety Tips!

Drowning is the second leading cause of unintentional injury/death for children and adolescents, and children aged 1-3 are especially vulnerable. As parents and kids gear up for a wet summer of fun at the pool, lake and beach, child rearing expert Bette Holtzman, vice president of consumer and family advocacy at The Goldberger Company, has some water safety tips to share that will make summer play time a splash for all:

Mothers

In the spirit of Mother’s Day (coming up soon - May 11th) I’d like to share an email I received from a friend. We all get these emails – some are better than others. The note in the Subject heading said “This was worth sending”, and I agree. It even brought me to tears. I wish I knew who wrote it so I could thank her.

MOTHERS AND MOMS

This is for the mothers who have sat up all night with sick toddlers in their arms, wiping up barf laced with Oscar Mayer wieners and cherry Kool-Aid saying, “It’s okay honey, Mommy’s here”;

Who have sat in rocking chairs for hours on end, soothing crying babies who can’t be comforted.

This is for all the mothers who show up at work with spit-up in their hair and milk stains on their blouses and diapers in their purses;

Winter Tips!

Now that the holidays are over and Punxsutawney Phil has predicted a long winter, many families are stuck at home with no end to winter in sight. While every family is hopeful that the rest of the winter won’t be that unbearable, there’s sure to be some boredom and restlessness along the way. Here are some important tips for you to help stave off cabin fever.

One of my New Year’s Resolutions this year is to throw away, actually send to the recycling box, papers, articles, notes, etc. that I haven’t looked at in years and obviously no longer need. I came across a list of resolutions written several years ago, when my children were 5 and 22 months. It brought me back to that January.

As the holidays approach, families everywhere are scrambling to finish their shopping, decorate their homes and prepare their holiday meals. While every family wants to make the holidays an enjoyable time for their children, it’s almost a given that there will be some minor speed bumps along the way. It can be especially tricky for families with younger children. Here are my important tips for parents to keep in mind to make the holiday season as stress-free as possible for Mom, Dad and the kids.

Why Dolls?

For my first column on the Goldberger Toy website I decided to write about Why Dolls? We are a doll company after all and it seemed like a logical place to start. Did you know that archaeological evidence indicates that dolls have been a part of human civilizations for thousands of years? The question of interest here is of what value are dolls to society and, more importantly, to children today.
